I heard it countless
times growing up.
No one had to specify
what was meant. I knew: stop sitting femininely.
For years, I tried to
"sit right,"
"walk right,"
and "talk right."
For years, I tried to
"fix" my body, unaware
that my small frame
has always known
exactly what was right:
back straight,
eyes steadfast,
and legs crossed in defiance.
